Ingredients
  

Meat Mixture

  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 onion finely chopped
  • 1 green bell pepper finely chopped
  • 2 jalapeños finely chopped (seeds removed for less heat)
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 lb ground beef or turkey

Sauce

  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tsp yellow mustard
  • 1/2 cup beef broth
  • salt and pepper to taste

For Serving

  • 6 burger buns

Instructions
 

  • Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add onion, bell pepper, and jalapeño. Cook until softened, about 5 minutes. Add garlic and cook for 1 more minute.
  • Add ground beef and cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until no longer pink. Drain excess fat.
  • Stir in ketchup, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, mustard, and broth. Season with salt and pepper.
  • Simmer for 10-15 minutes, until the sauce has thickened.
  • Spoon onto toasted burger buns and serve immediately.

Notes

Freezer Instructions: Let the cooled meat mixture completely. Freeze in airtight containers for up to 3 months. To use, thaw overnight in the refrigerator. Reheat in a saucepan over medium heat, stirring occasionally and adding a splash of broth or water if necessary.
