Ingredients
Meat Mixture
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 onion finely chopped
- 1 green bell pepper finely chopped
- 2 jalapeños finely chopped (seeds removed for less heat)
- 2 cloves garlic minced
- 1 lb ground beef or turkey
Sauce
- 1 cup ketchup
- 2 tbsp tomato paste
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 tsp yellow mustard
- 1/2 cup beef broth
- salt and pepper to taste
For Serving
- 6 burger buns
Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add onion, bell pepper, and jalapeño. Cook until softened, about 5 minutes. Add garlic and cook for 1 more minute.
- Add ground beef and cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until no longer pink. Drain excess fat.
- Stir in ketchup, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, mustard, and broth. Season with salt and pepper.
- Simmer for 10-15 minutes, until the sauce has thickened.
- Spoon onto toasted burger buns and serve immediately.
Notes
Freezer Instructions: Let the cooled meat mixture completely. Freeze in airtight containers for up to 3 months. To use, thaw overnight in the refrigerator. Reheat in a saucepan over medium heat, stirring occasionally and adding a splash of broth or water if necessary.
